Eleventh Annual Commercial Heat Treater of the Year Award Presented


Industrial Heating Magazine, in cooperation with the Metal Treating Institute (MTI), Jacksonville Beach, Fla., has awarded the eleventh annual Master Craftsman Award to American Heat Treating Inc. (Monroe, Conn.).


American Heat Treating Inc. was founded in 1981 to serve the saw blade and tooling businesses. Today, the company serves a variety of industries such as automotive, off-road equipment, armament/weapons systems, consumer products, construction, firearms, medical, and tool and die. The company has helped its customers reduce costs by shortening turnaround times, reducing WIP, eliminating trucking and creating one-time quality engineering of a part program. American Heat Treating has been a member of MTI since 1984.


American Heat Treating Inc. was awarded a plaque and $1,500 to be used as an education scholarship in material sciences or heat treatment. The award is based on contributions made by each applicant company in the areas of quality programs, pollution/hazardous waste control and community involvement. Larry Roether, general manager of American Heat Treating Inc., accepted the award at the MTI Fall Meeting held at the Grand Hyatt, DFW Airport, in Dallas, Tex., on Friday, October 28, 2005.




American Heat Treating, Inc. located in Monroe, CT was founded in 1981 to serve the saw blade and tooling businesses. AHT provides pick up and delivery in the southern and central areas of Connecticut.


With heat treat process offerings such as, continuous austempering, continuous hardening and tempering, salt to salt mar quenching and austempering, vacuum processing which includes brazing, IQ batch, and induction equipment. We have helped our customers reduce their costs by shortening turnaround times, reducing WIP, eliminating trucking and creating one time quality engineering of a part program. With all of these capabilities AHT has developed the reputation for producing thin material parts without distortion, some steel section sizes as thin as .007” have been successfully hardened.


American Heat Treating is a very active member of the Metal Treating Institute (MTI) and ASM International where ideas are transferred between other heat treat professionals again benefiting our customers. Also, AHT has been active in industry groups such as Center for Heat Treating Excellence. The company was used as a beta site where tests were completed during the development of CHTE’s computerized heat treatment planning system for batch furnaces and then again for continuous furnaces.
